SHREVEPORT, La. – Shreveport native and civic leader John Atkins announced Monday his candidacy to represent District 9 on the Caddo Parish Commission.

Atkins is currently a Principal and Partner in Atco Investment Company LLC in Shreveport.

Atkins believes Caddo Parish can do better and compete more strongly for economic opportunities. He believes government in Caddo Parish should be smaller, more efficient, effective, transparent, as well as, fair and balanced for all citizens of the parish.

Atkins also believes low taxes and supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs can help Caddo grow.

Atkins announcement says, “I will be serving for the sole purpose of making Caddo a better place to live, and for no other reason.”  John will donate his commission salary to The Community Foundation of North Louisiana for reinvestment in Caddo.  While on the commission, he will not accept any travel or retirement compensation.

John has been involved with a number of local civic organizations.  He is the Past-President of the Committee of 100, the Military Affairs Council and Southfield School.  He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees for Centenary College.

John also sits on the advisory council for the New Louisiana Angel Fund which is a public-private partnership focused on funding new businesses in Caddo Parish.
